Why cant i solve my rubik's cube 4x4x4?

ive been trying to solve my rubik's revenge and i got all the way to where i only have the top four corners, so since everyone told me to solve it like a 3x3x3 i did the step for the top four corners but they never line up any help? the formula i am using is U R Ui L U Ri Ui Li
