"Bel canto" singing technique vs. "Swedish/Italian school of singing" in opera?
If I am not mistaken, I believe the Swedish/Italian school of singing is a modified form of bel canto. It really encourages the growth and production of squillo. It is a more powerful version of bel canto. Bel canto is all about technique and sometimes loses the dramatic part of singing, whereas the Swedish/Italian school of singing allows for some pushing and getting into the music....I think... I had never really heard of the term until now, although I had heard of some of the teachers who do it.
